Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment
A Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment is the first stage survey when determining if there may be bats present in a building. Any building to be removed or greatly changed will
usually result in a request for a Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment.
A Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment is an assessment of the building using criteria laid out in the Bat Trust Guidelines. The building is independently assessed for features suitable for roosting bats such as
holes, crevices, cracks, missing tiles, rasied tiles or damaged soffit. From this assessment the building is given a score from Negligible to High based on the roost features present and the potential to host
roosting bats.
Buildings rated Negligible require no further work. Buildings rated Low, Moderate or High require a Bat Roost Emergence survey. The exact survey requirement will depend on the scoring and the location of
rosot features, so every building is different.
